Indigo Occasion Wear
– Ma mua Collection –
Designed in Japan.
Inspired by real shibori textiles.
Created for rehearsal, preparation, and presence —
the moments ma mua, before hula begins.

The moment begins before the chant.
This collection was created for moments that don’t quite belong to everyday life —
the time before hula, when you are already dressed, already imagining,
already shifting into a different rhythm.
It’s not stage wear, and not casual clothing.
It’s what you wear in the time ma mua —
before the dance begins.

During hula

About Indigo Occasion Wear — Ma mua Collection
Indigo Occasion Wear — Ma mua Collection is a contemporary clothing line inspired by traditional Japanese shibori, designed in Japan for the moments surrounding hula.
Material-based design, not imitation
All patterns are created from real, hand-dyed shibori textiles.
Each design begins with authentic fabric—hand-folded, bound, and dyed using traditional techniques—then carefully digitized and re-composed.
The garments themselves are printed, not hand-dyed.
However, the patterns originate from artist-created shibori cloth, preserving the irregular rhythm, depth, and quiet presence unique to handwork.
Designed for ma mua
This collection is created for rehearsals, cultural gatherings, travel to performances, and the quiet hours before hula begins.
These garments are worn not only during performance, but in the time leading up to it—
when intention settles, focus sharpens, and presence takes form.
Presence over decoration
Favored by dancers and musicians, the Ma mua Collection offers clothing that supports movement, mood, and individuality, rather than costume or trend-driven ornament.
Indigo is used not as decoration, but as atmosphere.

Designed for Ma mua
Leaving home.

Indigo as atmosphere
